You’re luckier than you think!

Who do you know that’s really lucky?
Do you know someone that seems to win a prize in every raffle drawing, takes the pot in every football pool, snags a prime parking space no matter how crowded the parking lot is? Maybe that person is you!
I was brought up with the understanding that I have “Biehl luck”, and let’s just say Biehls don’t expect to win raffles. And in this particular Biehl’s case, things I often win are comments like “Hmmmm….this is unusual,” or “Hmmmm……I’ve never seen this before,” when something has gone wrong with an appliance or my car. (Today, it’s my tire that keeps going low, leaving folks stumped as to what is causing the leak.)
Such experiences may be considered lucky for the curious appliance repairer or mechanic, but it is rarely lucky for my pocketbook or schedule. Biehl luck has always meant expecting rare outcomes that aren’t necessarily sought-after prizes. For me, it’s meant winning the “opportunity” to rely hard on humor, resilience, and help from kind neighbors and friends.
I have never believed I was particularly lucky. So, I always welcome the reminder that luck is much more than chance.
We might not be lucky in chance, but we can still be lucky in life. We might not be able to position ourselves to be the lucky winner of a drawing for a free weekend getaway to Lake Tahoe. But, we can work at being “lucky” in love with the person we’d want to join us. We can also work to position ourselves to be “lucky” in a career that would enable us to have a weekend getaway in Lake Tahoe whether or not we won the raffle.
Luck in life has much to do with a good attitude, a confident mindset, hard work and smart positioning, and the capacity to change occasional bad luck into good outcomes.
Luck can come with being a good human.
“Being pleasant and having a good attitude is a simple way to become luckier. Opportunities come through people, and people are more likely to bring opportunities to people they like. It's hard to win if your attitude adds friction to every interpersonal experience." James Clear
It can come by exuding confidence.
“Confidence creates opportunities for lucky breaks…If you have the confidence to get up and talk to that cute guy across the bar you’ll be more likely to get lucky than if you sit in the corner nursing your mojito.” Karla Starr
It can come by staying curious and saying yes to new things.
“Saying yes leads to more doors. Saying no often closes them.” Susie Moore
It can come by committing to finding the good in everything.
“Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck.” Dalai Lama
So set yourself up for luck in life (the kind of luck that keeps on giving) while finding a way to make that bad car luck be a “stroke of luck” in the end!
Remember you’re lucky. Remember you’ve got this.
Love,
Molly
