Rules to Live By

I have been having a particularly enjoyable week. I hope you have, too.
Until last night I wouldn’t have been able to put my finger on what has made my week so great.
Then, I happened upon this quote from Charles Darwin.
“If I had my life to live over again, I would have made a rule to read some poetry and listen to some music at least once every week.”
And there it is.
Across the past week, I’ve had the privilege of enjoying live, original music performed by my niece, Dalby, on a rooftop bar in LA. Then there was that epic Super Bowl halftime show that had me head-bobbing big time with the rest of America.
On top of that musical goodness, someone shared with me this stunning excerpt from Kahlil Gibran’s poem "On Love".
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
I get where Darwin was coming from wanting regular infusions of poetry and music and have decided to adopt his suggested rule with a twist.
Poetry and music + friend time and sunshine. My new “rule” is to take in doses of these each week.
How about you?
What rule will you establish to derive more satisfaction from your week?
What will you do to get ample doses of joy?
Love,
Molly
